HIDDEN IN THE CITY: Liu Bolin
Liu Bolin’s work comes from the realization that an individual can easily be ignored in large urban spaces. His work focuses on the position of the individual in contemporary cities and within the consumer society. To carry out his works, Liu Bolin paints himself with the purpose of integrating his image to different urban locations, and then photographs himself in the middle of the scene.
Although the final support of the work is Photography, the artist enriches his discourse by simultaneously traveling through the world of sculpture, body painting and performance. After a century and a half since the appearance of photography as a medium of expression, artists like Bolin manage to innovate by creating new ways for this medium.
