Herminio Álvarez Asturias, Spain, b. 1945.

Biography

Spanish sculptor known in the art world simply as “Herminio”, his dedication to sculpture is late. He began his artistic training at the Humberto García del Villar Experimental Art Workshop.

As an artist, his most important concerns have been balance, perpetual motion and electromagnetism. For his works, he uses different materials: wood, metal, threads and glass, which he works focusing on the issues like the reflection on the invisible, the tension, the unstable.

He has monumental works, but also others of an intimate nature. The large-format ones take over the space that surrounds them and capture the observer's attention. The intimate works, on the other hand, made with wire, thread, and other materials that could be described as “delicate”, are shown under the protection of glass urns.

Throughout his career he has had many solo exhibitions both in and out of Spain, as well as collectives, among which stand out those carried out with the group “PANTA-REI”, of which he is a founding member.

His works are also found in Museums and other Institutions, such as the Museum of La Rioja (Logroño), Dobe Collection (New York), Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias (Oviedo), and Prince of Asturias Foundation (Oviedo).
