Carlos Cruz-Diez Venezuela, France, 1923-2019.

Biography

Franco-Venezuelan lived and worked in Paris since 1960. He was a major protagonist in the field of Kinetic and Optical art. Color theorist, his research is based on four chromatic conditions: subtractive, additive, inductive and reflective. His work has contributed to a new way of understanding the color phenomenon in art, greatly expanding its perceptual universe.

In his works he shows that color, in interaction with the viewer, becomes an autonomous, evolving reality, devoid of anecdotes, which evolves in real time and space, unaided by form or support.

His artworks are housed in prestigious permanent collections at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
