“FOTOSEPTIEMBRE” WITH ANTONIO BRICEÑO (2014)
OPEN AIR EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS ON BIG FORMAT PORTRAIT FRAMESDioses de América is an iconographic proposal by Antonio Briceño (Caracas, Venezuela, 1966) based on various indigenous mythologies. Through the digital manipulation of the photographs, Briceño built a pantheon of Pan-American nature gods. For the production of sacred or mythical graphic images, which do not have a tradition or a graphic model to imitate, the photographer reviewed and interpreted the cosmogony and mythologies of these cultures from his point of view.
This works covered ten cultures from six different countries, and was carried out between 2001 and 2007: Huichol (Mexico 2001), Piaroa (Venezuela 2002), Kogui and Wiwa (Colombia 2003), Wayuu (Venezuela 2005), Kuna (Panama 2005) ), Quero (Peru 2005), Kayapó (Brazil 2006), Ye´Kuana and Pemón (Venezuela 2007).
A selection of these photographs was exhibited outdoors in the Plaza de Francia in Casco Antiguo and later in the Parque Recreativo y Cultural Omar, in Panama City. Large-format photographs were presented on elements that simulate giant picture frames. These pieces were designed to carry out traveling exhibitions in public spaces and mark the beginning of a new cultural dynamic that Marión Art Gallery and the Articruz studio will carry out with various artists.
